Workshops

We offer several workshops from beginner to advanced classes working with concrete (objects for in- and outdoors) or papier machee (only for indoors). Just scroll through the pictures in the photo gallery to get some inspiration and ideas. Everything is possible with any type of material and I will help you translating your ideas into reality. Courses are running regularly and all year round. Just contact me and I will arrange and discuss with you whatever suits your time and needs. All you have to bring are an artist's outfit meaning some old clothes that you do not care about, your eventual ideas, enthusiasm and a good mood.

The following classes are offered:

Concrete workshops:

1. Concrete workshop for the beginner

2. Concrete workshop for the advanced

Papier machee workshops:

3. Papier machee workshop for the beginner

4. Papier machee workshop for the advanced

Other workshops:

5. Furniture workshop

6. Concrete pouring workshop

Concrete workshops

1. Concrete workshop for the beginner:

You will learn to make small concrete sculptures or other objects. Starting with finding an idea, if you do not have one by the time the workshop has started, and formulating a design for your project. With this design, we continue creating the skeleton of the sculpture with mesh wire, which we then use to shape our sculpture with concrete. After having built and dried the sculpture, we need some time for the finishing, which includes grinding, painting or other methods for developing your concrete surface design.

Duration*: 1.5 days (1 day for shaping the sculpture and 0.5 days for finishing)

Costs: £120 plus material (£20-50, depending on the size of your sculpture) (small lunch,

beverages included)

2. Concrete workshop for the advanced:

The advanced workshop is for artists, who would like to make bigger concrete sculptures or other objects as you can see in the picture, which you can also do as a beginner. The principle of the workshop is the same as in the beginners workshop above. However, bigger sculptures take more time. Therefore, the workshop is aimed at 3 days. Your knowledge will be expanded by learning to work with various concrete techniques and recipes such as the combination of cement with glass fibre, sand or other ingredients. The participant will gain a much more advanced knowledge of working with different techniques and materials as in the beginners workshop.

Duration*: 3 days (2 days for shaping and 1 day for finishing)

Costs: £210 plus material (£40-100, depending on the size of your sculpture) (small lunch, beverages included)

With this design, we continue creating the skeleton of the sculpture with mesh wire, which we then use to shape our sculpture with papier machee. 4. Papier machee workshop for the advanced:

The advanced workshop is for artists, who would like to make big papier machee sculptures or other objects as you can see in the picture, which is also suitable for beginners. The principle of the workshop is the same as in the beginners workshop above. However, bigger sculptures take more time. Therefore, the workshop is aimed at 3 days. Your knowledge will be expanded by learning to work with various materials meaning different types of glue, paper and mesh wire. The participant will gain a much more advanced knowledge of working with different techniques and materials as in the beginners workshop.

Duration*: 3 days (2 days for shaping and 1 day for finishing)

Costs: £190 plus material (£20-50, depending on the size of your sculpture) (small lunch, beverages included)

Other workshops

5. Furniture workshop:

You will learn to design and build your own furniture with the help of different materials such as papier machee, concrete or mosaic. Once you have finished your pieces, you can even use them like a regular one! Starting with finding an idea, if you do not have one by the time the workshop has started, we will formulate a design for your project. With this design, we continue creating the skeleton of the sculpture with mesh wire, which we then use to shape with papier machee or concrete. If you like you can even use an old piece of furniture and re-design it like in the picture on the left. Here we have used an old plastic chair. After having built and dried the object, we need some time for the finishing, which includes painting or other methods for developing your concrete surface design.

Other examples for pieces of furniture, which you could do during this workshop would be: a table, a chess table, a bench, a lamp, a stool,... Even a pavillon for your garden could be made but this would take more time.

Duration*: 3 days (2 days for shaping the sculpture and 1 day for finishing)

Costs: £210 plus material (£20-100, depending on the size of your object and material) (small lunch, beverages included)

6. Concrete pouring workshop:

In this workshop you will learn how to make sculptures by pouring concrete. Starting with finding an idea, if you do not have one by the time the workshop has started, and formulating a design for your project. Once this is done, we continue shaping your sculpture with clay, which we will wrap up with cast. A few minutes later, when the cast has dried, we remove the clay to obtain a negative casting mould to pour in the concrete to obtain the positively shaped sculpture. A few days later your sculpture will have dried so that we can remove the mould. Now we can start with the finishing, which includes washing, painting or other methods for developing your surface design.

Duration*: 2.5 days (2 days for creating the sculpture and 0.5 days for finishing)

Costs: £180 plus material (£20-40, depending on the size of your sculpture) (small lunch, beverages included)

* Please note that, depending on the object you would like to make, sometimes the estimated duration of the workshop is not sufficient. Therefore, you can spontaneously add an extra half day to any of the workshop packages for only £30.
